I admit it – I’m a dog person! And apparently so are a lot of other people living and working in Austin, Texas. Although my home in the Lake Travis area west of Austin is currently without a four-legged resident, I have three wonderful granddogs!
My newest granddog, Rugger. Hard to believe that someone would neglect and starve such a handsome guy, but he's in good hands now and still gaining weight.
In a recent article in the Lifestyle section of the Austin American Statesman, a newly-arrived transplant to Austin insisted that the best way to meet new people was to “get a dog”. When I started thinking about my own reaction to neighbors that I meet while walking their dogs, I realized that she was absolutely right. Stopping to pet a new neighbor’s dog is a great way to break the ice and begin the process of interacting with those who live in your neighborhood.
